This design for this bookcase calls for a simple shape for the backing. In the previous post I mentioned splitting it in two for ease of construction. Here’s how I did it:
Using the Versacut, I freehand cut every line in about ten minutes. Using the built in laser guide made it easy. In the end, I had some nice sharp, accurate angles amd two rocket stages cut out. I couldn’t resist stacking them, so here’s the final height, 70″:
It took far longer to lay out the lines, set up the saw horses and rigid insulation (my sacrificial cutting surface of choice), then clean up the piles of sawdust afterward than it did to make the cuts!
After cutting the backer boadds free, I then measured off the sides and shelves and cut them free. Once everything was in it’s rough dimensions, I marked out the curves for the shelves and got e everything prepped for tomorrow.
